Dentist Near Stanton, DE
Stanton sits at the crossroads of Route 4 and Route 7, close to where the Red Clay and White Clay creeks join and run on toward the Christina River. Gawlas Family Dental is roughly two and a half miles north of that crossroads, at 25 Milltown Road in Wilmington — about an eight-minute drive on local roads, with no highway involved.
That last part matters more than the mileage. Stanton is ringed by interchanges: I-95, Route 141 and the Churchmans Crossing corridor all pull traffic through the same few intersections. The drive to our office goes the other way, north and uphill through Marshallton, and never touches a limited-access highway at all.
We are a family-owned general, cosmetic, restorative, preventive and emergency dental practice. We treat children, adults and seniors, and we park everyone free in our own lot.
The Practice Stanton Families Have Been Driving To for Decades
Gawlas Family Dental has served patients under its current ownership since 2021, when Dr. Matthew Gawlas purchased the practice from Dr. Todd Rowen. Dr. Rowen had already spent approximately 40 years caring for patients at this location, and nearly the entire team remained with the practice through the transition.
That continuity matters to patients who want to know the people providing their care. Dr. Gawlas has family ties to the area and is raising four children close to their grandparents.
Many of our patients want an independent dental practice where decisions about care are made by their dentist rather than a large corporate chain. Gawlas Family Dental is a member of the Independent Dental Society of Delaware, a group of independent dentists working to keep quality dental care accessible and affordable.
A Stanton household can bring a first-grader, a teenager and a grandparent to the same office in the same week, for anything from a checkup to a cracked molar.

Driving to Our Office From Stanton
Gawlas Family Dental
25 Milltown Road
Wilmington, DE 19808
The local route (no highway): from the Route 4 and Route 7 intersection, follow Stanton Road north to Old Capitol Trail, continue onto Newport Road, then take Duncan Road up to Milltown Road. Turn west on Milltown. Our building is a few hundred yards past Newport Gap Pike, on the stretch of Milltown Road that runs toward Brandywine Springs Park.
If you would rather stay on main roads: take Limestone Road (Route 7) north out of Stanton — the same road Stanton Middle School sits on — out to Kirkwood Highway, then follow Kirkwood Highway east to Prices Corner. Turn north onto Route 41, Newport Gap Pike, and Milltown Road is the first left.
What slows this drive down: not distance, but the Route 4 and Route 7 crossroads themselves, which carry both commuter traffic and everything coming off the interchanges. Once you are north of Old Capitol Trail the roads open up. We see patients Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Our lot is free, on site and handicap accessible — no shared shopping-center parking to compete with.
Who We See From the Stanton Area
Stanton is a working crossroads more than a subdivision, and the patients who come to us from it reflect that. Some live in the older streets near the creeks and the Hale-Byrnes House, the 1750 brick farmhouse on Stanton Christiana Road where Washington held a council of war before Brandywine. Others live in the newer housing that filled in around Delaware Park and the Delaware Technical Community College campus.
A good number are people whose day already points north or west — parents whose children ride to Stanton Middle School on Limestone Road, staff and students at Delaware Tech, and adults who commute into Wilmington but would rather see a dentist on their own side of the interchanges.
What we hear most often from them is that they wanted a practice small enough to know their name, and close enough that a chipped tooth on a Tuesday is not an afternoon off work.
Dental Care for Patients Without Insurance
Gawlas Family Dental offers the Smile 365 Dental Discount Plan for qualifying patients without dental insurance. The plan provides included preventive services and reduced fees on additional eligible care for an annual membership fee.
Smile 365 is a dental discount plan rather than insurance. There are no yearly maximums, deductibles, claim forms, preauthorizations, preexisting-condition limitations, or waiting periods. Please review current plan terms and eligibility with our office before enrolling.
We currently accept Aetna Extend, United Concordia, and Delaware Children’s Medicaid, along with all standard forms of payment. Because insurance participation can change, contact the office to confirm current acceptance and coverage before scheduling treatment.

Can I call the office for a dental emergency?
Yes. Call the office immediately if you are experiencing a dental emergency. We try to reserve room in our schedule for urgent needs and will make every reasonable effort to see you as soon as possible.
