Dentist Near Milltown, DE
Gawlas Family Dental has a Milltown Road address — 25 Milltown Road — at the eastern end of the same road that runs through Milltown. General, cosmetic, restorative, preventive, and emergency dentistry, roughly a mile and a half from the Limestone Road crossroads, with no turns to memorize.
Milltown itself is not a town with a border. It is the crossroads where Milltown Road meets Limestone Road (Route 7), plus the homes and developments strung along both. Our building sits at the other end of that same road, where Milltown Road stops at Newport Gap Pike (Route 41). One road, start to finish.
That closeness changes what a dental visit costs you in time. A cleaning does not have to swallow an afternoon, and a chipped tooth on a Tuesday morning does not mean a cross-county drive. We are open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and parking is free in our own lot, including handicap-accessible spaces.
The Dental Office at the End of Milltown Road
Gawlas Family Dental has served patients under its current ownership since 2021, when Dr. Matthew Gawlas purchased the practice from Dr. Todd Rowen. Dr. Rowen had already spent approximately 40 years caring for patients at this location, and nearly the entire team remained with the practice through the transition.
That continuity matters to patients who want to know the people providing their care. Dr. Gawlas has family ties to the area and is raising four children close to their grandparents.
Many of our patients want an independent dental practice where decisions about care are made by their dentist rather than a large corporate chain. Gawlas Family Dental is a member of the Independent Dental Society of Delaware, a group of independent dentists working to keep quality dental care accessible and affordable.
Everything from a six-month checkup to a cracked molar is handled inside this one building, so a Milltown household is not juggling two or three different dental offices and two or three different sets of records.

Getting Here From Milltown: One Road, No Turns
Gawlas Family Dental
25 Milltown Road
Wilmington, DE 19808
The entire route: from the Limestone Road (Route 7) crossroads, head east on Milltown Road and stay on it. You will pass Duncan Road on the way. We are on Milltown Road just before it ends at Newport Gap Pike — if you are stopped at the Route 41 traffic light, you have gone past us.
Distance: about a mile and a half from the crossroads, roughly five minutes in ordinary traffic. No highway, no interchange, and no reason to touch Kirkwood Highway.
Timing: the stretch near Duncan Road carries the most traffic, since Brandywine Springs School sits on Duncan Road just off Milltown Road. Its day runs 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., so allow a few extra minutes if you are passing through right at drop-off or dismissal. Our earliest appointment is 9:00 a.m., which already clears the morning wave.
On foot or by bike: a good number of Milltown Road addresses are within an easy ride. Brandywine Springs Park sits about a quarter mile north of the office if you want to make the trip part of a walk rather than an errand.
Free on-site parking with handicap-accessible spaces.
Who We See From Milltown
Because we are on their road, Milltown patients treat this office the way people treat a neighborhood hardware store: they stop in. Parents book back-to-back appointments for two or three children in one visit because the drive is not worth splitting up. Adults schedule a cleaning during a lunch hour. When something breaks over the weekend, they call Monday morning and are usually seen without rearranging the week — we deliberately hold schedule space for emergencies.
The crossroads at Limestone Road is the practical center of daily life here, with its pharmacies, its tavern, and Saint John the Beloved Parish and Limestone Presbyterian Church nearby. Many of the households along that corridor have been coming to 25 Milltown Road for decades, a fair number of them since Dr. Rowen’s years in the building.
We also see a steady stream of people who live along Milltown Road but work in Wilmington or farther up I-95, and who specifically did not want a dentist near the office. All ages are welcome, from a first checkup to a full set of dentures.
Dental Care for Patients Without Insurance
Gawlas Family Dental offers the Smile 365 Dental Discount Plan for qualifying patients without dental insurance. The plan provides included preventive services and reduced fees on additional eligible care for an annual membership fee.
Smile 365 is a dental discount plan rather than insurance. There are no yearly maximums, deductibles, claim forms, preauthorizations, preexisting-condition limitations, or waiting periods. Please review current plan terms and eligibility with our office before enrolling.
We currently accept Aetna Extend, United Concordia, and Delaware Children’s Medicaid, along with all standard forms of payment. Because insurance participation can change, contact the office to confirm current acceptance and coverage before scheduling treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is your office actually in Milltown?
Our address is 25 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. The Milltown crossroads — where Milltown Road meets Limestone Road (Route 7) — is about a mile and a half west of us. We are at the opposite end of the same road, where it meets Newport Gap Pike (Route 41).
How long does the drive really take?
Roughly five minutes from the Limestone Road crossroads in normal traffic, and less from the addresses in between. It is a straight run east on Milltown Road with no turns.
Will I have to deal with Kirkwood Highway or Route 41?
Not if you come along Milltown Road. The office sits before the Route 41 intersection, so you never enter it. Coming from Milltown, you can skip the Kirkwood Highway corridor entirely.
Can I get a child in and back to school the same morning?
Usually, yes. That is one of the main reasons Milltown families use us — the round trip is short enough that a routine appointment costs part of a morning rather than the whole day.
Is parking available at the dental office?
Yes. Gawlas Family Dental has a free on-site parking lot for patients, including handicap-accessible parking.
Can I call the office for a dental emergency?
Yes. Call the office immediately if you are experiencing a dental emergency. We try to reserve room in our schedule for urgent needs and will make every reasonable effort to see you as soon as possible.
Does Gawlas Family Dental offer a membership plan?
Yes. The Smile 365 Dental Discount Plan helps qualifying patients without dental insurance receive included preventive care and save on additional eligible services. Contact the office for current pricing and complete plan terms.
